FIGHTS: Anderson Silva - From King to Clown

ONE OF UFC'S GREATEST CHAMPS IS HOIST ON HIS OWN PITARD
by
Bowie V. Ibarra

LOLOLOLOLOL!

One of UFC's greatest champions completely erased his dominant legacy by acting like a jackass longer than he should have, giving his challenger, Chris Weidman, a veritable taxi driver, the punchers chance he needed to catch Silva with an arm punch to take the title away from the most dominant UFC champ in history.

It was already a bad night for Brazilian fighters, with Charles Olivera and Roger Gracie losing to their opponents earlier.  They say bad things happen in three, so its appropriate that Anderson's match was next after these two fighters from Brazil had a mark added to their loss column.

Weidman took Anderson down early and though they ended up back on the feet, Silva was content to try and clown Weidman for the rest of the round.

My prediction was Anderson would turn it up in the 2nd round and put Weidman away, but it turned out he decided playing around in a world title match in his Burger King tights was much more appropriate for whatever reason.

And in a still-young combat sport where some schlemiel can have a handful of victories that somehow gets him booked in a main event fight.  That dude still has to ask his boss off of work changing tires at Goodyear to fight one of the greatest fighters in the world (read: Bret Rogers vs. Fedor Emelianenko).  And then, that schmuck, who hasn't even broken double-digits in the win column, can still has a punchers chance (6 ounce gloves) to beat one of the best ever (Anderson Silva was 33-4 at the time.  Weidman was 9-0).

That was pretty much on display tonight, and it was handed to Weidman on a silver platter by Silva.

Silva deserved to be utterly humiliated by his actions, lose the belt, and the respect of fans around the world.  I get the 'showboat' aspect of combat sports.  Floyd Mayweather, the biggest asshole in all of fight sports, has that as part of his game.  But he doesn't spend entire rounds doing that, begging his opponent to punch him in the mouth.  A moment or two, I get it.  But entire rounds?  WTF are you doing?

Real combat sport champs don't act like that:  Ali, Foreman, Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, Masa Funaki, Bas Rutten, Takanohana, Asashoryu, Jack Briscoe, Dory Funk, Harley Race.  By acting like a clown in the middle of the ring and getting his ass knocked out, he spit in the face of every former champ, the UFC brass, and the fans.  He asked for it, literally, and he got it in spades.

Word on the street is Dana is insisting that the rematch is Anderson's only option.  And it makes sense, too.  The loss cost the UFC superfight money by removing potential cash matchups against GSP and/or 'Bones' Jones in the future.

With that said, ZombieBloodFights.com salutes Chris Weidman for taking the fight seriously and wanting that title more than one of the most legendary champs in UFC history, who will now be remembered not as the most dominant champ in UFC history, but as a clown that pissed his legacy away by playing too much in one of the most high-stakes sports in the world.

“Litte faggots popping fireworks for the Fourth of July tonight?”

Trevor and Todd’s sole purpose was to drink beer and make people feel miserable at Calavera City Community College.  It was an even easier task when the boys weren’t in class.  The five people they rolled up on were some of their favorite targets, both in and out of school.

“Don’t you guys have a douchebag meeting tonight or something?”

Geoff was always the first to respond of the five friends.  He gave a high-five to his two buddies, Bruce and Lawrence, who were standing next to him when he uttered the response.  They immediately began laughing.  The laughter was just another way to get under Trevor and Todd’s skin.

“You’re just jealous because we can afford them, asshole,” said Belinda, joining the boys with a barb of her own.  Heather, who was standing by Belinda, laughed along with the boys.  She knuckle-bumped Belinda.

“You’re the only girl I know, Belinda,” said Todd, “That would settle for a little queer boyfriend like Bruce who doesn’t even have a car.”

“I’ll take personality over having a car any day, asshole,” she said, flipping him the classic ‘boney-maroney’ middle finger.

“Why don’t we just go inside your house?” said Todd, indicating her home.  “You can see how big my personality is.”

“Fuck off,” she replied as Trevor and Todd chuckled.

Two large military trucks pulled up behind Trevor’s Mustang.  The bright lights of the first vehicle cut through the early evening.  The driver honked.

With the arrogance of a true jerk, Trevor took a long and defiant swig off a beer before saying, “When you girls want to hang out with some real men, call us.”  He revved the engine to his Mustang GT before peeling out in front of the kids.  The white smoke of burnt rubber drifted from the pavement to the air as the car shrieked like a Detroit-born banshee before speeding away.  The driver of the military truck grinded the vehicle into gear and drove away.  The five friends laughed.

“I should have thrown a bottle-rocket in their car,” said Bruce.

“That would have been hilarious,” said Heather.

“Speaking of,” said Lawrence.  “Let’s send another salvo.”  He handed four bottle-rockets to his friends and they immediately placed them in their bottles on the sidewalk.

“Try and delay the lighting,” suggested Belinda.  “Let’s see if we can get them to pop in one-second intervals.”

“Hey babe, this isn’t the fireworks at the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio, now,” chuckled Bruce.

            “Just do it.  Ready?”

The friends had their punks lit and ready.  “Go.”

They each waited for the person beside them to light their fuse before they lit theirs.  As the last of the five friends lit theirs, the first rocket went off.  Then the second, third, fourth, and finally the fifth rocket took flight.  Like Belinda had planned, they whistled into the sky in a crude, yet coordinated, salvo.  They burst in the sky in intervals, and the friends cheered.

“Respect the soldiers,” came a voice.  The friends turned around.  They knew who it was.  It was Mr. Fuentes, who had rolled up on his bike.  Or as students at Calavera City Community College knew him, he was Pete the Nutty Professor.  “Respect the soldiers on the Fourth of July.  They are with God now.  They died so you could live here in America.”

“Guy’s nuttier than squirrel turds,” whispered Bruce.

“Leave him alone,” said Heather.  “He’s just old.”

“And annoying,” said Geoff, lighting a small string of Black Cat fireworks.  As the fuse lit, Geoff yelled out, “Hey, Nutty Professor, here’s to the soldiers.”

Before his friends could stop him, Geoff tossed the firecrackers at the old man.  The old man whimpered in fear as the fireworks lit up the ground around him.  The blasts of the tiny explosives rattled his eardrums, and he got back on his bike and rode away.

“Respect the soldiers, you little bastards.  Respect the soldiers,” he said as he rode away.

The five friends couldn’t help but laugh.  It was like watching a guy in an old western dance around the ground as a villain was shooting at his feet.

“Geoff,” said Heather, hitting his arm.  “That was mean.”  She was still chuckling.

“You thought it was funny,” said Geoff.

            “It was funny,” said Bruce.

“He’s always talking religion,” said Bruce.  “Like my mom says, if he was mad at us, he should forgive us.”

“I forgive you,” said Belinda, walking up to her man.  Her hands held in a pantomime of religious fervor.  “I forgive you.”

The five laughed again and found more fireworks to set off.

But as they had a laugh, Trevor and Todd were plotting against them.

“Hey, check it out,” said Trevor, indicating Deputy Jacobs at the Whataburger.  “It’s the sheriff.”

“Let’s get out of here,” he said.  “If he sees us drinking, we’re done for.”

“But it’s Deputy Jacobs,” said Trevor.  “He’s my brother-in-law.  He owes me a favor, too.”  Trevor slammed his beer and threw the empty can in the back seat and drove to the restaurant.  He pulled into the parking lot and parked the car right beside the deputy’s vehicle.  “Watch,” said Trevor, stepping out of the car and walking to his lawman-in-law.

In the car, Deputy Jacobs was eating a triple-cheeseburger as Trevor knocked on the window.  Diced onions had already fallen on his belly, and the deputy made no effort to wipe them off as he rolled down the window.

“Trevor,” said the deputy, talking with his mouth full.  “What are you doing?”

“Well, brother, I just wanted to report some lawbreakers to you.”

The deputy made no effort to finish the bite from the burger before he stuffed five French fries in his mouth.  “What do you got?”  The colors of the food in his mouth repulsed Trevor.  Gruesome bread melded with ketchup and meat in his mouth.  It was a disgusting collage.  Mustard was on his chin, but Trevor made no effort to tell him.

“There’s a group of kids popping fireworks just two blocks away.  There’s a restriction on popping fireworks in the city limits, right?”

“That’s right.”  The deputy made no effort to finish eating before he spoke.  Saliva laced the masticated food in his full mouth.  A small piece of lettuce hung on his moustache.

As if on cue, the fiery projectiles of a Roman Candle lit up the sky, exactly where Trevor was indicating.

“Well, as you can see,” said Trevor, smiling and showing off his crooked teeth, “those kids are clearly ignoring the burn ban in town setting off those fireworks.”

Deputy Jacobs took another big bite of the burger.  “I’ll be right over there, Trev,” he said, talking with his mouth full.  “Thanks for the info.”

“Anything for my brother,” said Trevor, giving a thumbs up.

The deputy had another question.  “Have you been drinking, by the way?”

“Brother,” said Trevor, slyly.  “I don’t drink and drive.”

Trevor got in the car.  Arrogantly, he cracked open another Natural Light and toasted his in-law.  Todd shrugged, and toasted back as they pulled out.

Deputy Jacobs had a few more bites before he finished his burger and fries.  He would go after the kids soon.

The five friends were having a time just blocks away.

“Man, those were awesome,” said Bruce.

“We got the heavy duty Roman Candles,” said Heather.

“And we haven’t even pulled out the mortars yet,” said Belinda, smiling.

“Ya’ll got mortars?” said Geoff.  “I want to light one.”

“We’ll have to finish with the mortars,” said Lawrence.  “Always go with the big finish last.”

“True, true,” said Belinda.  “Right Bruce,” she winked.  “Big finish.”

Bruce smiled.  “Oh, yeah.  Big finish.”

“You guys are so gross,” said Heather, laughing.

            “Big explosion, right Bruce.”

            Bruce blushed.  “Oh, yeah.”

“You guys are nasty,” said Lawrence.

They set off another series of fireworks, oohing and ahhing at each display.

Another car pulled up at the mouth of the street.  At first, the five just thought it was a regular car.  But when the overhead red and blue lights came on, they knew it was the cops.

“I thought we were out of the city limits,” said Geoff.

“We’re about a hundred yards inside the limit,” blushed Belinda.

The car was speeding to them.

“Quick,” said Belinda.  “Into my house.”

The five picked up their fireworks and ran into Belinda’s house.  They slammed the door as the car reached the house.

“My mom’s coming back soon, so we can’t stay here.  Out the back,” said Belinda.  The team quickly followed her out the back door and into the back yard.

            “What now?” asked Lawrence.

“Just follow me,” she said, walking through the back gate into an adjacent alley.  Beside the alley was a crude barrier that the team bypassed to go into a dry concrete waterway.  They followed Belinda under a nearby bridge.

The team assembled, expecting to be pursued.

“So,” asked Heather.  “What are we doing here?”

“Let’s give panzon a little time to lose interest,” stated Belinda.  “Then let’s go to the cemetery and pop fireworks.”

“Oh, no,” said Heather.  “That’s too scary.  What with all those dead people.”

“They’re dead, Heather,” said Lawrence.  “Died in wars.  It’s the military cemetery, not the public one.  They’re not going to bother us.”

“Dead soldiers tell no tales,” said Geoff.  “I wonder if they still have their weapons.”

“Shut up,” said Belinda.  “They don’t bury military soldiers with their weapons.”

“The military cemetery would be the best place to shoot more fireworks, though,” said Heather.

“It’s outside the city limits, too,” said Bruce.  “We could pop them there and not get in   It’s a public place.”
trouble.

“Just let this marinate,” said Belinda.  “We’ll head in and have some fun in just a few.  Tubby shouldn’t be too long.”

The five friends spent the next few minutes talking about school, general gossip, who was boffing who, and other general discussion topics when Belinda thought it was best to go.  In that fifteen-minute period, the remains of the day were swallowed by the horizon and replaced by stars and the moon in a black sky.  The five friends crept out of the dry waterway and walked to the cemetery.

“Hey, did you guys hear the rumor that there’s a secret military base under here?” asked Lawrence.

            “What?” said Geoff.

“Yeah,” Lawrence continued.  “The government sponsored renovations on the cemetery in the early ‘80s.  They had standard renovation equipment from the city.  But there was equipment here that was used for tunneling.  It took like three years before the construction crews left.”

“It’s true,” said Bruce as the five entered the cemetary.  “My dad told me about it once.”

“I heard there was a UFO base under it,” said Belinda.

“It was that they made UFO’s, not an actual base,” said Lawrence.  “And I heard it, too.  They might be hiding one.”

            “Or two,” said Belinda.

The five friends took the main road into the cemetery.  It was a large cemetery, over 5 acres of land.  They decided it would be best to head to the back portion of the cemetery and pop the fireworks there.

As the kids began setting up their bottle rockets, Roman candles, and other fireworks in the distance, Trevor and Todd waited in their car nearby.  They lingered until the five were in the distance before quietly closing the iron-gate to the cemetery.

“Hand me the chain,” said Trevor, getting it from Todd.  It was a simple bike security chain, but it would be efficient enough to lock the five in.

As Trevor finished locking it, he switched the levers to the combination to its home position.  Both could not contain their glee.

“This is going to be great,” said Trevor, heading back to the car.

“Hell yeah,” said Todd.  “I’m going to make them beg.  Beg, beg, beg.”

The two returned to the vehicle about a block away and cracked open two more beers.  They could see the fireworks in the distance.  The explosions in the sky displayed warm colors, a joyful expression of the Fourth of July.

Unfortunately, just below the five friends, there was a not-so-joyful explosion.  The kids might not have known exactly what was below them from their earlier conversation, but the speculation that the government was conducting experiments under the cemetery for years was spot on.  Government-sponsored scientists had been conducting tests with chemical weapons for years. The explosion caused by miscalculation and fate provided sick colors, and a fearful expression of death that filled the secret halls of the base.  The explosion rocked the facility, cracking its ceiling, blasting the scientists up against the walls.  The device that was put together with almost perfect precision now belched its deadly gas into the air.  The underground base was immediately shut down and contained.  Its inhabitants dead.

Dead, at least, for the moment....

ZOMBIES: REVIEW World War Z plays out like an NWO fantasy (no spoilers)

MASS EXTERMINATION, VACCINE SALVATION, AND UN DOMINANCE HIGHLIGHT Z-POC EPIC

by Bowie V. Ibarra

When I wrote Down the Road in 2005, a title which eventually earned a spot as one of the charter titles of Permuted Press, I didn't realize it would be part of the first zombie wave to hit the literary world.  I like to think that we're officially in the 2nd big wave, with 'The Walking Dead' bringing zombie horror to mainstream TV.

And with that mainstream attention comes the inevitable big budget big-name studio movies.  'World War Z', a movie based loosely on the sequel to one of the first wave zombie books, 'The Zombie Survival Guide' by Max Brooks, has hit the big screen.  With highly publicized troubles in production, its long awaited time on the movie circuit is here.  But did it cut the mustard?  One of my fellow zombie authors Timothy Long had some thoughts about its release here.  So did my fellow zombie enthusiast Eloise J. Knapp.  Texas author Rhiannon Frater, an author who just doesn't seem to like me, also got a chance to see a pre-screening

At any rate, here's the ZombieBloodFights.com thoughts without spoilers.

The movie is the journey of the protagonist, Gerry Lane as played by Brad Pitt, who is assigned by the UN to find a solution to the problem.  He gets a front row seat to how the world is dealing with the crisis.

Without spoilers, the build-up was great, and so was the action that led up to it.  But the finish was just meh.  But considering Gerry's goal from the start, it was still the right finish.  I was still left underwhelmed, but at least it finished when it should have.  Not like Django.

Alex Jones put out several speculative pieces about the UN involvement in the film, martial law, and how it reflects aspects of the so-called New World Order's agenda for mass extermination.  Check it out here, and here

(Some minor spoilers)

Though the movie wasn't has heavy-handed as my fellow kook Jones' wild speculation about the film, and the UN did act as a global force making decisions for the world, including the US, the finish of the film was scary for different reasons.  It included imagery and suggestions promoting the mass extermination agenda of the shadowy and ambiguous 'globalists'.  Bulldozers scooping heaps and heaps of the dead in piles like garbage and setting them on fire were some of the more haunting images in my eyes. Those are the exact images my kooky friends say the globalists dream of, and I hated that the imagery is now being ingrained as a part of mass consciousness.

And though vaccines have been widely accepted as safe and non-toxic in spite of information suggesting the contrary, the production and distribution of the remedies across the globe was terrifying to me.  Witnessing children and the world happily accepting the vaxes and watching them be inoculated with the remedy/poison were just as scary, in my eyes.  Do you want to remain vulnerable to the 'zekes'?  Or would you rather poison yourself and fight against them?

But in the end, I was still left with the hope that, with the remedy, humanity had the capacity to still work together against a common enemy.  Unity through adversity.

Ironically enough, that has always been the key to humanity's success, and the main reason my fellow kooks say the 'globalists' keep us divided.

FIGHTS - FAN RECAP - Ring of Honor Invades SATX 2013

Ring of Honor Rocks the Shrine Auditorium
BY
Bowie V. Ibarra

Ring of Honor wrestling took the Shrine Auditorium by storm this past Saturday night with a card stacked with ROH standouts and Texas Talent!  ZombieBloodFights.com was there to take in all the action and have some fun.

Here's a recap.  And if you enjoy the recap, consider showing your support by purchasing my latest combat sports story, "Pit Fighters: Double Cross" in paperback and Kindle for as low as .99!

TAILGATE START

ZBF.com and Texas wrestling superfan Danny started the night off with some Lone Star Beer in the parking lot.  We were joined by his girlfriend and all had a Lone Start or three to start off our evening.  We were even joined by indy wrestler Mr. B, who was more than happy to have a beer with us.  Then, it was off to the show!

MEETING THE BRISCOES AND ADDRESSING THE PINK ELEPHANT

If you've been following the ZombieBloodFights.com coverage of ROH's approach to Texas, you might recall the preview of the show which featured the story on the controversial story about how ZBF.com and other KotU fans were allegedly put under scrutiny by ROH officials?  Well, it was my chance to put some of the rumors to bed and get to the heart of the controversy:  Would the Briscoes fight the Kingz of the Underground if they had a chance.

As I approached the autograph table, a ROH official asked called me out on the videos.  As he took my money for the autograph, I told him, 'A Briscoes/KotU match is the Pacquiao/Mayweather of the Texas Indy Tag Team Scene, man.'  He chuckled and let me in.

Mark made a face at my 'science' shirt, and I welcomed them to Texas with a Lone Star Beer a piece that I snuck in at the door.  And then I asked the question:  "If the timing were right, and everything could be coordinated the way it needs to be, would ya'll fight Scot Summers and Ryan Genesis, The Kings of the Underground?"

The answer was concise.

'Yeah.'

Well, there we go, ROH!  When you come back, make it happen!

TEXAS INDY TALENT TAKES THE STAGE

After saying hello to my fellow Texas indy wrestling friends, I sat down to watch the opening match.  It featured AJ Summers and Rudy Russo vs. Carson and Ricky Starks.  It took me a minute to figure out who to boo and who to cheer, as AJ Summers usually uses underhanded tactics to achieve victory.  But Carson and Starks were playing dirty, and Summers and Russo came out on top in a fun bout.

FRANK TRIGG:  MASTER OF CEREMONIES

A dude I thought looked like Frank Trigg was the MC for the night.  He actually did a good hacky-sack-style kick of a streamer during the night, so maybe it was just Frank Trigg's dad.

He also approached me at the end of the night and called me 'The Black Bobby Fish'.  Clearly, Frank comes from a part of the country that does not have Hispanics.

KYLE O'REILLY vs. MIKE SYDAL

O'Reilly shakes hands with a ghost

One half of the tag team champs, ReDRagon, or Re: Dr. Agon, Kyle O'Reilly mixed it up with Mike Sydal.  I swear to God, I thought Kyle was fighting the ghost of Brian Pillman.  They put up a good show, even with Bobby Fish at ringside.  Man, Fish can talk some shit as well.  But the Texas fans held their own, including superfan Tommy.

O'Reilly with the win on Sydal.

(B)ERNIE from the local Fox affiliate made an appearance.

In a fun moment, Ernie from Fox SATX made it to the ring to welcome every to the show and spell out the fact that Ring of Honor is owned by Sinclair Media, which also has a hand in his Fox station.  If you recall, Ernie was trying to interview ACH when Steve Corino called in and hijacked the segment.

Well, Ernie almost paid for showing up when Mark Briscoe came out for the save and attacked Corino.  The two went back and forth when Corino's mystery S.C.U.M. hand was revealed to be Jimmy Jacobs and Rhett Titus.

Impromptu match ended in DQ.

ATHENA vs. BARBI HAYDEN

This is as good as my photos got because I didn't want
ROH to take my camera

This was an outstanding match by the Texas indy women.  Both girls came out swinging, and the fans enjoyed it.  In the end, Athena hits the O-Face and puts Barbi away.

BOBBY FISH vs. RAY ROWE

Properly shaved New York douchebag Bobby Fish took on Texas indy standout, Ray Rowe.  As you might imagine, it was a physical match that found Rowe chopping Fish until he bled.  Rowe blasted Fish with his double knee flying attack and it was amazing.

But in the end, even after a good showing, Rowe lost to fish.

EDDIE EDWARDS vs. ROH TV CHAMP MATT TAVEN

This was a great and competitive match as well.  Edwards and Taven beat each other up before Edwards took the victory.  Taven had a long, hard look at the belt and considered his worth after the matchup.

ACH vs. JAY LETHAL

If this is match of the night, then it was match of the year.  ACH and Jay Lethal tore the house down in an amazing high flight and technical match.  ACH brought all he had, but it wasn't enough to take down Lethal, who got him.

But in the end, Lethal gave ACH his props and saluted him with pure honor.

And then, INTERMISSION

ADAM COLE vs. RODERICK STRONG

This match was alright.  The two put on a competitive match, with Strong taking the victory in the end.

But the real highlight was watching noted With Leather Blogger and Best and Worst of Raw mastermind Brandon Stroud just unload on Strong with a personal verbal vendetta against the noted wrestling stalwart.  Jesus Christ, he went off on Strong, saying he looked like a human leg, which was weird.  Called him the lamp from 'A Christmas Story'.  After he brought it up, I could see that, I guess.

And then, when the match ended, Strong confronted Stroud from the ring, calling him names and saying he doesn't score with chicks as Stroud sat by his immensely charming girlfriend, the lovely Miss Destiny.  Now I'm not going to draw any conclusions, but we're all adults here, Roderick Strong.  You're probably wrong on that assumption.  Try again.

TEXAS TORNADO TAG MATCH
S.C.U.M. reps JIMMY JACOBS AND RHETT TITUS
VS.
MIKE ELGIN AND BJ WHITMER

These dudes threw down all over the Shrine Auditorium, where Shriner's help raise money for children's hospitals and shit.  And it got crazy.

As it made its way back to the ring, Jimmy Jacobs suggested to Rhett Titus a way to murder BJ Whitmer by taking the mats off the Shrine floor and spike piledriving him to the pavement.  But luckily he was saved from that fate.

Balding mullet man seeking to commit murder 1 before the other dudes do

Truth is, Elgin promised he was going to send SCUM out in a body bag at the beginning of the night.  So, in a way, SCUM was just attempting to commit 1st degree murder first before Elgin made good on his promise.  Sound strategy when you think about it.

SCUM took the victory.

RING OF HONOR WORLD TITLE MATCH
JAY BRISCOE (C) vs. DAVEY RICHARDS

This was yet another great match and a great finish to the show, with both wrestlers giving their all to the crowd that stayed with them the whole night.

One of the highlights, though, was Texas Superfan Stephanie shouting Kings of the Underground at Jay Briscoe before the match started.  I had made my peace with them, but she certainly hadn't.  She was wearing her green KotU shirt, too.  It was pretty awesome.

At any rate, the two even battled it out in a test of strength multiple times to the delight of the fans.  Jay takes the win in a hard fought battle.

All I got to say is it was a tremendously fun night of action that I hope returns to our state again.  Perhaps a show in ATX and SATX on the same weekend?

Also, KotU vs. Briscoes.  Goddammit, make it happen!

Thanks Ring of Honor

FIGHTS: RETROSPECTIVE-ROH's Supercard of Honor IV '09 recap from Houston, Texas

RING OF HONOR'S FIRST TRIP TO TEXAS
by
Bowie V. Ibarra

Ring of Honor is returning to Texas Saturday June 1st at the Shrine Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas.  South and central Texas wrestling fans have been looking forward to the event for months now.  This visit is not their first, however, as Ring of Honor staged two events.  One of those events was Supercard of Honor, put on Friday April 3, 2009 in Houston, Texas.  ZombieBloodFights.com was in attendance at that event.  Here's a recap of the fun that was had, via the Ring of Honor DVD.

ROH:  SUPERCARD OF HONOR IV RECAP

The DVD opens with a ROH World Champ Nigel McGuinness promo.  In it, he talks about how he's breaking down physically, but is ready to defend the title against Jerry Lynn.

ERICK STEVENS vs. RHETT TITUS

We are then treated to a great opening matchup between Erick Stevens and Rhett Titus.  It was a great match that got the fans riled up early.  You have to remember, this was a bit of an international affair, as the crowd was chock full of people not only from Texas, but from around the world.  And all of them took pleasure in chanting to the sexually charged Titus, "You're a Virgin."

They put together a great match, and Stevens ended up beating Titus.  Naturally, the crowd was as rude as their ticket prices allowed, questioning Titus' manhood on the way out.  But he came back with the standard homophobic slur to the fans.  Good times.

CHRIS HERO/EDDIE EDWARDS/INCOGNITO w/Shane Hagadorn
vs.
KEVIN STEEN/JAY BRISCOE/MAGNO

This match was notable, as just moments into the match, the top rope broke.  The rest of the match was fought with no top rope, and they did a great job working through the bizarre event.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
==  Chris Hero is now Cassius Ohno in WWE.
==  Eddie Edwards returns to Texas will be competing at the second ROH show in SATX.
==  Incognito took Vince's check and became Sin Cara Negro before being unmasked by Sin Cara Azul and becoming the 'cholo' Hunico.
==  Jay Briscoe also returns to Texas as the Ring of Honor Champion to take on Roderick Strong for the title.

D-Lo Brown cuts a heel promo.

KATSUHIKO NAKAJIMA vs. RODERICK STRONG

As per their styles, this bout was a hard hitting and intense bout.  During this match, you got the sense that the guys were wrestling on the show in the old fashioned tradition of trying to do even better than the last match that went before them.  It was an outstanding matchup which Strong won.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
==  Roderick Strong will be appearing in SATX and fighting Adam Cole for the TV Title

BOBBY DEMPSEY
vs.
KAMALA w/Shane Hagadorg and Kim Chee

This wasn't much of a match, but it was great to see Kamala come out and spend a few minutes in the ring and get a check.  Dempsey made friends with Kamala by painting the same symbols on his fat body.  They ended up attacking Hagadorg.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
== As per Wikipedia:  On November 7, 2011, Jim Harris had his leg amputated due to complications of high blood pressure and diabetes, forcing him to retire.  On March 27, 2012, Harris's son, Kamala Jr., stated in an interview that his father might also have his other leg amputated.  His right leg was amputated shortly afterwards and a campaign was launched seeking donations to cover his financial needs.

Alexander Koslov cut promo against Bryan Danielson before their match.  He did it all in Russian.

FOUR CORNER'S SURVIVAL
CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI vs. BLUE DEMON, JR., vs. BRENT ALBRIGHT vs. EL GENERICO

This was an outstanding match, not only for the talent, but personally for me.  It was the first time I had a chance to see a legend of lucha libre in the form of Blue Demon, Jr.  Not only that, but it was outstanding to see him wearing the '10 Pounds of Gold' of the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.
I remember this match so much for several reasons.  As a spectator from Germany was able to tell me how to say 'Go fuck yourself' in Swiss to Claudio.
I also remember finally getting to shout in Spanish at El Generico, as I thought his gimmick was mocking lucha libre.  Even after the event, I was still not sold on Generico until later.
This is also around the time that someone's remaining birthday cake made it around to my section.  I'll never forget how much community I felt that night.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

==  Claudio Castagnoli has gone on to WWE and become Antonio Cesaro.
==  El Generico is in the WWE Florida territory without the mask and as Sami Zayn

ALEX KOSLOV vs. BRYAN DANIELSON
This was another outstanding fun and scientific matchup.  Having started his training under arguably the best wrestler to ever step in the ring, Shawn Micheals, Bryan had a kind of homecoming of sorts.  The two amused the crowd with their great wrestling and entertaining antics.

It was interesting to see Danielson walk around with a kind of swagger in the ring.  Though he remained humble, you could tell he enjoyed it.

This was also the first time I heard the chant, "You're going to get your fucking head kicked in."  That's still a chant I wish I heard to this day.  He also got a 'Best in the World' chant as well.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
==  Bryan Danielson went on to the WWE, and has held several titles, including the Big Gold Belt World Championship.

D-LO BROWN vs. COLT CABANA

These two put together an outstanding match, featuring a tapout the ref did not see before D-Lo knocked Cabana out with a foreign object.

DAVEY RICHARDS vs. KENTA

Outstanding and physical match for KENTA's NOAH Lightweight Title.  Kenta defended it with extreme prejudice.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
==  Davey Richards returns to Texas to face Jay Briscoe for the ROH World Title.

"AGE OF THE FALL" JIMMY JACOBS/AUSTIN ARIES
vs.
TYLER BLACK/NECRO BUTCHER

This was a fun match as well, with both teams playing to the crowd and taking to the skies.  In the end, Aries pins Black via Brainbuster.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

==  Jimmy Jacobs has competed around Texas and has been a part of the current Texas indy wrestling revolution.  He returns to Texas as a member of SCUM.
==  Austin Aries has joined TNA Impact Wrestling and has held multiple titles there.
==  Tyler Black joined WWE and is one of the members of SHIELD.
"Age of the Fall" Jimmy Jacobs and Austin Aries vs. Tyler Black and Necro Butcher

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH
NIGEL McGUINNESS vs. JERRY LYNN

This title match was filled with emotion and energy from not only the wrestlers, but the crowd.  Everyone desperately wanted to see Jerry win, and they were not disappointed.  It was a great ROH Title match.

I think one of the best parts was when Nigel McGuinness got under the skin of those at ringside and said, words to the effect of, 'You bought your ticket.  You have a good time.'  Gold!

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
==  Nigel had a short-lived run in TNA when he had to retire due to injuries.
==  Jerry Lynn has also retired as well after a nagging back injury finally won his match with Jerry.  He had a year-long farewell tour.
Both will be remembered as some of the best wrestlers to ever lace up their boots.

And now, ROH returns to San Antonio, Texas.  And though we aren't going to see what amounts to a Mayweather/Pacquiao dream matchup between the Kingz of the Underground against the Briscoes, ZombieBloodFights.com still welcomes them back, and still looks forward to the fun.

Maybe next time, Ring of Honor.  Maybe next time.
