FIGHTS: Canelo commits animal abuse against 'Perro' Angulo

ANGULO IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND IN BIG GOLDEN BOY MAIN EVENT
by
Bowie V. Ibarra

Here's hoping Animal Control didn't show up to the MGM Grand to arrest Canelo for animal abuse.  Saul Alvarez spent 10 rounds abusing Alfredo 'El Perro' Angulo in his comeback fight.  For a fight that was billed as a 'toe-to-toe' action-packed matchup amounted to animal cruelty.

Canelo came right out of the chute fast, nailing Angulo with what would be the first of hundreds of hard, fast, and solid blows to the body and head.  And from the start, Angulo looked like he didn't even want to be there.  There was no fire and no competitive spirit from Angulo, who looked bored and sad throughout.

Angulo showed moments, but had absolutely nothing that threatened Canelo.  Near the end, Canelo was even getting cocky, making Angulo look like crap.

Thankfully, the garbage matchup was ended with a solid uppercut from Canelo in the 10th that stunned Angulo, prompting the ref to mercifully step in and stop the 30 minutes of abuse Angulo sustained with severity.  Angulo was mad that the ref ended it, but it was just to save face.  Had he come to fight, it might not have ended that way.  And his trainer, Virgil Hunter, claimed to have told the ref if Canelo put together some combos, that he would stop the fight.  But he was saving face, too, as he should have not even allowed Angulo to go out in the 10th.

Canelo's brother, Ricardo Alvarez, lost a lopsided fight in the undercard against Sergio Thompson.  Leo Santa Cruz beat up Cristian Mijares in another lopsided fight.  And Nihito Arakawa had nothing against Jorge Linares.

It's been a long time since I've seen a boxing card that ended up so lopsided as this.  I want my $20 back.

FIGHTS: 'Chino' Maidana serves Adrian Broner fist-fulls of humble pie, takes title

PROBLEM CHILD BRONER KNOCKED DOWN A NOTCH (LITERALLY!) BY SCRAPPY ARGENTINE

Earlier this year, I recapped a fight between Adrian Broner vs. Gavin Rees.  In it, I describe Broner's victory as pretty good, but nowhere near the Mayweather status folks claim he's the heir to.  He was good, but not that good as a boxer.  Now as a trash talker, yes, he's a total douchebag.  But as a boxer?  He's just okay.

Well, that assumption was finally put to the test in his title fight against the scrappy Marcos 'El Chino' Maidana at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.  It was a unique chance for Maidana to grab the gold, put in yet a very familiar position of being lined up as a tomato can for a star that promoters were grooming for brighter days.  We know how that played out the first time (don't we, Victor Ortiz).  So, you should have known how this night was probably going to play out.

This was an amazing fight filled with great emotion.  Here's some notes from the fight:

-- BRONER DRY HUMPS MAIDANA
Adrian 'Boner'?
Cocky and brash, Broner plays too much.  Near the end of the 1st round, Broner tried to get into Maidana's head by maneuvering away from a Maidana flurry and dry-humping Maidana from behind.  Funny and rude?  Yes.  It solidified Broner as one of the biggest dumb asses in the sport of boxing today.
But did Madiana serve him a receipt later?  Yes, he did.  Near the end of the fight, with Maidana up on points, he got behind Broner and humped him as well.

-- MAIDANA MAKES BRONER LOOK STUPID FOR 12 ROUNDS
Heir to the throne of Mayweather?  After tonight, he'd be lucky to mop the floors of The Money Team gym.  Mayweather might be the king of trash-talking assholes, but at least the guy has the skill to back it up.
Broner comes across as a dude who is impersonating a superstar. The dude's good and has some talent.  You can't get to this level and not have talent and skill.  But he's got to pull his head out of his own ass and put his skill over his trash talk and disgusting antics in the gym.

-- BRONER KNOCKED DOWN TWICE
LOL!

-- BRONER LEAVES THE RING IN A HUFF AT THE END OF THE NIGHT
Bye!
There's an old saying I hear a lot, especially in Texas, when someone you don't like is leaving the room:  Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

In the end, I'm glad Broner looking like a jackass before, during, and after the fight will forever be preserved online, the modern day stocks, where we can point and laugh at how a dude from Argentina put him on his ass twice and stuffed humble pie down his throat.

-- REMATCH?
Why not?  I'd love to see Maidana hand Broner his ass again.  Who wouldn't?

And if you like boxing, you've got to read the ZBFbooks.com series, 'Pit Fighters'.  The book features a Scottish Boxer who makes his way to America for a big boxing payday, while making some bones in the MMA cages as well.

'Pit Fighters: Baptism by Fire' and 'Pit Fighters: Double Cross' are combat sports-themed book that features fights from the early days of MMA, and plenty of underground money fights.  You've got to check them out, and they're available on Kindle or paperback today.

FIGHTS: Mayweather/Canelo continues to define 'The One'

BOXING EXCELLENCE, SCIENCE ON DISPLAY IN BIG FIGHT CARD
by
Bowie V. Ibarra

With the exception of the opening title snoozefest, the fight card 'The One' with the Mayweather/Canelo main event was a great night of boxing that once again put the outstanding boxing skills of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on display.  Here's some notes from the night.

INTERNATIONAL BOXING FEDERATION JR. MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT
CARLOS MOLINA/ISHE SMITH

-- The MOLINA/SMITH IBF Jr. Middleweight title fight was garbage.  I showed up at the bar in the middle of this fight, and these guys looked like shit.

Listen, I give them respect for getting to where they are in their respective careers.  Hell, I couldn't go 12 rounds of boxing.  I couldn't get out of round one.  But Jesus, these dudes looked like I might have after a round of boxing.  They were slow and seemed gassed out halfway through their title fight.

Maybe it was nerves, or both blowing their load early in their big appearance, but I was not impressed.  Neither looked like they wanted the title.  And even though Carlos Molina looked more like Alfred Molina, congrats to Molina for taking the decision.

WBA/WBC LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT
DANNY GARCIA vs. LUCAS MATTHYSSE

-- Now these two dudes, on the other hand, looked like they were fighting to free their family from the grips of a shady promoter who had them tied up in the back.  Both these guys brought the fire from the word go.  When it was all over, Danny Garcia had shut one of Matthysse's eyes and knocked him down once, bringing the victory to his camp.

THE ONE
FLOYD MAYWEATHER, JR. vs. SAUL 'CANELO' ALVAREZ

--  C'mon.  You already know it was 'Monster Heel vs. Babyface' in this main event matchup.  I'm not going to lie, I was hoping Mayweather would finally be humbled by the Mexican phenom.  But truth is, I really just hoped it would be competitive.

And it sure was.  I don't think going as far as saying it was a complete blowout is anywhere near the truth.  It was competitive.  Canelo stuck in there and gave it his best.  But the science, skill, and experience of Mayweather was too much for the young star even Mayweather called 'The future of the sport'.

Canelo could not catch the elusive Mayweather, saying his punches weren't hard and more about getting those points on the card.  Canelo was very patient from round one, and tried to solve the Mayweather boxing riddle to no avail.

And as usual, when round four rolled around, Mayweather turned up the heat and started testing Canelo.  Though Canelo passed the early tests, the pressure Mayweather applied later and the mounting frustration of not being able to hit the champ throughout, put Mayweather on the winner's side of the cards.

-- There was one particular round where I thought Canelo got hurt.  There was one point in the late rounds where Canelo just stood on the ropes, hands up, and made no effort to fight back.  But when he finally responded, Mayweather just stepped away.

-- Gina Carano was in attendance at the fight.  That was cool to see.  I guess she's more of a 'movie star' than 'MMA star' these days.

-- Mayweather put the fight on cruise control in the 12 round.  There was no need to put himself in danger, as he had already won the fight by then.

--  A judge had the match tied.  I could see that.  Look, I honestly don't see six rounds that Mayweather completely dominated.  I saw four, maybe five that could have gone to Canelo, especially in the opening rounds, and maybe one or two late.  But I'm not a judge at ringside, I was a drunk at a bar.  And if Mayweather or anyone wants to complain about putting a matches decision in the hands of a judge, you should really be complaining at a fighter not finishing the fight and leaving it in the judges hands.  Don't blame the judges for doing their job subjectively.

--  For those who say Mayweather's a boring fighter, c'mon now.  It's like the dudes that say the science of jiu-jitsu/grappling is boring in MMA.  And though there's some truth to that, the real thing you should be looking at is the science behind it.  Boxing will always be more exciting than the ground game of an MMA match because of the nature of the sport, and watching Floyd dodge and counter was breathtaking.

The object of boxing is to cut a dude's face, punch them until their face starts swelling and they can't see to fight, or give a dude a concussion.  You can't blame Mayweather for being the best at avoiding those fates and being the best at it.  His skill and speed is super-human.

In the end, it was still a great fight.  And that was probably the last real opponent for Mayweather, because there's no one left out there.  Pacquiau's done, and there's no one else that's going to challenge him in his last four fights whose even close to being ready for him.  Mayweather might be a sonovabitch, but he's got a Ph.D in the science of boxing.

And speaking of outspoken boxers, a boxing champ calls out an MMA champ in the story, "Pit Fighters: Double Cross".  Who wins the Boxing vs.MMA matchup?  You'll have to read it to find out.

'Pit Fighters: Baptism by Fire' and 'Pit Fighters: Double Cross' are combat sports-themed books that features fights from the early days of MMA, and plenty of underground money fights.  You've got to check them out, and they're available on Kindle or paperback today.

FIGHTS: NOTES - #WWE #SummerSlam 2013 - F*** Randy Orton and HHH

OUTSTANDING MATCHES PROVES WWE CAN PUT ON GOOD WRESTLING, HHH & RANDY ORTON STILL P.O.S.'s
By
Bowie V. Ibarra

I'm going to give WWE this:  For putting on the most-watched mainstream wrestling show with the shittiest wrestling the world over, I have to give you credit for putting on one of the best PPV's filled with 'actual' good wrestling matches I've seen from mainstream wrestling in forever.

When I think actual good wrestling, I don't think WWE.  I think NWA-Branded Outlaw Wrestling.  I think River City Wrestling.  I think NWA-Houston.  I think Ring of Honor.  I even think Anarchy Championship Wrestling, even though word on the street is the quality has gone in the shitter.  I'm lucky enough to live in a part of the country, south Texas to be specific, where quality pro-wrestling and quality pro-wrestlers still exist.  But I would never rank WWE anywhere near the emotion and fun I have at these events.

Until tonight.

Not since 'War Games: '97, any Freebirds vs. von Erich's match, Rhythm and Blues jumping The Bushwhackers, Villano III vs. Atlantis (mask vs. mask), among others, but especially War Games '97 have I felt the kind of emotion that I did at tonight's Summer Slam 2013 PPV.  Here's some notes from the event.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
ALBERTO DEL RIO (c) vs. CHRISTIAN

It's a simple formula.  Put two dudes who know how to wrestle in a match and let them go.  Raise the stakes by putting a title on the line, and you've got the formula for success.

The weird subtext of this angle is the whole 'white vs. Mexican' aspect of the fight.  Don't lie.  You can feel it coming from the crowd.  Even though Christian is a Canuk, there was this cultural aspect to the match that might have made me uncomfortable and cocky outside of south Texas, but had no problem celebrating with a crowd that was heavily on the side of Del Rio to begin with.

All that aside, the match itself was outstanding.  Great action, great wrestling, and great high-stakes intensity with the title on the line.  It was exactly what a title match should look like, not like the stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID (did I say stupid?) STUPID non-title losses WWE puts on every goddamn week.  How stupid are you and your producers, WWE, to do that.

At least you made up for it here at this pay-per-view.  But with the final interview, it felt like you were stirring the pot of the culture war out country seems to be fighting against Mexicans and other immigrants.  It's as if you wanted to get the crowd to want Jack Swagger to show up and stand up to Del Rio.  Ya'll piss people off a the beginning of the match by making the ring announcer say his name in Spanish in the tradition of the 'foreign heel' archetype, then you expect people to cheer for him at the end of the match.

FUUUUUCK YOU, WWE, for perpetuating this culture war, you assholes.  But thanks, I guess I'll give you my $30 at the same time to wear that Del Rio shirt to piss every part of America outside of the US southwest off who doesn't understand Mexicans, Hispanics, and their participation in US culture.

CM PUNK vs. BROCK LESNER

Yet another outstanding match that was great from top, middle, but not the bottom.  Like an idiot, Punk focuses his attention on Heyman and tries to lock him out (???) and forgets he's in a big fight against one of the biggest monsters to ever grace the UFC octagon or the WWE ring.

People were mad when I was shouting how stupid Punk was for doing that, but he was.  He deserved everything he got for ignoring his real opponent.

Good job, stupid.

WWE WORLD TITLE MATCH
DANIEL BRYAN vs. JOHN CENA (c)
GUEST REFEREE - HHH

The IWC was already abuzz with its predictions at how it would play out: Bryan wins, Orton cashes in MIB.  So why are we so mad that it played out exactly like we predicted?

Because we knew that's how WWE would do it to provide a big FU to the IWC.

The match was outstanding.  HHH was a great ref.  Bryan and Cena brought the pain, and it was a great match.  Nothing shady, it seemed, even though I was suspect of HHH being buddy-buddy with Bryan at the end.  Asshole, I watched you jump Bryan out of nowhere in ATX at a Smackdown taping at the end of the year.  Now I don't know about you, but like Martin Riggs of 'Lethal Weapon' fame, I never forget an asshole, and I did not forget how I watched HHH jump Bryan out of nowhere at the end of his match against, ironically enough, Randy Orton at this taping.

So when Orton came out, and Bryan looked ready, I was ready for it to go down.  Think of it:  It should have been one of the times a Money in the Bank cash-in didn't result in a title change.

So, like many others, I'm already upset Orton would pull this MiB bullshit, so I want to see it go down.  But I know the history of that goddamn briefcase, and I know it has to go down.  Sure enough, there's Trips to fuck everything up.

For the record, Orton joins The Freebirds, Kevin Nash, and HHH as some of my most hated people in pro-wrestling.  I was ready to fight ever goddamn Orton or HHH fan in the bar tonight, that's how fired up I was.

But you know what?  That's what I pay for.  That's the kind of emotion I pay my hard-earned Ancira VW dollars to feel when I attend pro-wrestling events.  God, I was mad when Orton dared to step out and threaten Bryan.  I was even more upset when HHH double-crossed Bryan.

And what pieces of shit all Cena and Orton fans are for cheering for HHH jumping Bryan to allow Orton to steal his title.

I swear, I hate that MiB briefcase.

But here's what you can't get past:  1.  Bryan beat Cena clean.  Cena fans can never take that away from him.  2.  Orton had to jump Bryan like a pussy after HHH helped him.  Therefore, Orton is a pussy and HHH is openly a dick, so their fans are now pieces of shit and eternal enemies of me.

Basically, you can expect me to confront anyone wearing an Orton or HHH shirt by saying, words to the effect of, "What's it like knowing you wear a shirt for a dude who is a pussy and had to win a title by jumping a dude after a match?"  Or, perhaps, "Why would you wear a shirt for a dude who nobody cares about anymore, but fucks up matches everybody actually cares about?"

Can you see the kind of emotion this pay-per-view has pulled from me?  Not since War Games '97 have I felt this kind of anger and emotion.

And all I got to say is 'thank you, WWE'.  That's why I pay money to watch pro-wrestling.  It's cheaper than therapy.  And that's why I'm ready to pay money to see Bryan whip Orton's ass.

AND HHH's!

I just wish you did that more often instead of shitting out the same stupidity you do every week.

If you think I couldn't put together a better story, well I think I have.  If you enjoyed Summer Slam 2013, you'll love both 'Pit Fighters: Baptism by Fire' and 'Pit Fighters: Double Cross'.  Both are combat sports-themed books that features fights from the early days of MMA.  You've got to check them out, and they're available on Kindle or paperback today.

FIGHTS: Anderson Silva - From King to Clown

ONE OF UFC'S GREATEST CHAMPS IS HOIST ON HIS OWN PITARD
by
Bowie V. Ibarra

LOLOLOLOLOL!

One of UFC's greatest champions completely erased his dominant legacy by acting like a jackass longer than he should have, giving his challenger, Chris Weidman, a veritable taxi driver, the punchers chance he needed to catch Silva with an arm punch to take the title away from the most dominant UFC champ in history.

It was already a bad night for Brazilian fighters, with Charles Olivera and Roger Gracie losing to their opponents earlier.  They say bad things happen in three, so its appropriate that Anderson's match was next after these two fighters from Brazil had a mark added to their loss column.

Weidman took Anderson down early and though they ended up back on the feet, Silva was content to try and clown Weidman for the rest of the round.

My prediction was Anderson would turn it up in the 2nd round and put Weidman away, but it turned out he decided playing around in a world title match in his Burger King tights was much more appropriate for whatever reason.

And in a still-young combat sport where some schlemiel can have a handful of victories that somehow gets him booked in a main event fight.  That dude still has to ask his boss off of work changing tires at Goodyear to fight one of the greatest fighters in the world (read: Bret Rogers vs. Fedor Emelianenko).  And then, that schmuck, who hasn't even broken double-digits in the win column, can still has a punchers chance (6 ounce gloves) to beat one of the best ever (Anderson Silva was 33-4 at the time.  Weidman was 9-0).

That was pretty much on display tonight, and it was handed to Weidman on a silver platter by Silva.

Silva deserved to be utterly humiliated by his actions, lose the belt, and the respect of fans around the world.  I get the 'showboat' aspect of combat sports.  Floyd Mayweather, the biggest asshole in all of fight sports, has that as part of his game.  But he doesn't spend entire rounds doing that, begging his opponent to punch him in the mouth.  A moment or two, I get it.  But entire rounds?  WTF are you doing?

Real combat sport champs don't act like that:  Ali, Foreman, Matt Hughes, Randy Couture, Masa Funaki, Bas Rutten, Takanohana, Asashoryu, Jack Briscoe, Dory Funk, Harley Race.  By acting like a clown in the middle of the ring and getting his ass knocked out, he spit in the face of every former champ, the UFC brass, and the fans.  He asked for it, literally, and he got it in spades.

Word on the street is Dana is insisting that the rematch is Anderson's only option.  And it makes sense, too.  The loss cost the UFC superfight money by removing potential cash matchups against GSP and/or 'Bones' Jones in the future.

With that said, ZombieBloodFights.com salutes Chris Weidman for taking the fight seriously and wanting that title more than one of the most legendary champs in UFC history, who will now be remembered not as the most dominant champ in UFC history, but as a clown that pissed his legacy away by playing too much in one of the most high-stakes sports in the world.

FIGHTS - FAN RECAP - Ring of Honor Invades SATX 2013

Ring of Honor Rocks the Shrine Auditorium
BY
Bowie V. Ibarra

Ring of Honor wrestling took the Shrine Auditorium by storm this past Saturday night with a card stacked with ROH standouts and Texas Talent!  ZombieBloodFights.com was there to take in all the action and have some fun.

Here's a recap.  And if you enjoy the recap, consider showing your support by purchasing my latest combat sports story, "Pit Fighters: Double Cross" in paperback and Kindle for as low as .99!

TAILGATE START

ZBF.com and Texas wrestling superfan Danny started the night off with some Lone Star Beer in the parking lot.  We were joined by his girlfriend and all had a Lone Start or three to start off our evening.  We were even joined by indy wrestler Mr. B, who was more than happy to have a beer with us.  Then, it was off to the show!

MEETING THE BRISCOES AND ADDRESSING THE PINK ELEPHANT

If you've been following the ZombieBloodFights.com coverage of ROH's approach to Texas, you might recall the preview of the show which featured the story on the controversial story about how ZBF.com and other KotU fans were allegedly put under scrutiny by ROH officials?  Well, it was my chance to put some of the rumors to bed and get to the heart of the controversy:  Would the Briscoes fight the Kingz of the Underground if they had a chance.

As I approached the autograph table, a ROH official asked called me out on the videos.  As he took my money for the autograph, I told him, 'A Briscoes/KotU match is the Pacquiao/Mayweather of the Texas Indy Tag Team Scene, man.'  He chuckled and let me in.

Mark made a face at my 'science' shirt, and I welcomed them to Texas with a Lone Star Beer a piece that I snuck in at the door.  And then I asked the question:  "If the timing were right, and everything could be coordinated the way it needs to be, would ya'll fight Scot Summers and Ryan Genesis, The Kings of the Underground?"

The answer was concise.

'Yeah.'

Well, there we go, ROH!  When you come back, make it happen!

TEXAS INDY TALENT TAKES THE STAGE

After saying hello to my fellow Texas indy wrestling friends, I sat down to watch the opening match.  It featured AJ Summers and Rudy Russo vs. Carson and Ricky Starks.  It took me a minute to figure out who to boo and who to cheer, as AJ Summers usually uses underhanded tactics to achieve victory.  But Carson and Starks were playing dirty, and Summers and Russo came out on top in a fun bout.

FRANK TRIGG:  MASTER OF CEREMONIES

A dude I thought looked like Frank Trigg was the MC for the night.  He actually did a good hacky-sack-style kick of a streamer during the night, so maybe it was just Frank Trigg's dad.

He also approached me at the end of the night and called me 'The Black Bobby Fish'.  Clearly, Frank comes from a part of the country that does not have Hispanics.

KYLE O'REILLY vs. MIKE SYDAL

O'Reilly shakes hands with a ghost

One half of the tag team champs, ReDRagon, or Re: Dr. Agon, Kyle O'Reilly mixed it up with Mike Sydal.  I swear to God, I thought Kyle was fighting the ghost of Brian Pillman.  They put up a good show, even with Bobby Fish at ringside.  Man, Fish can talk some shit as well.  But the Texas fans held their own, including superfan Tommy.

O'Reilly with the win on Sydal.

(B)ERNIE from the local Fox affiliate made an appearance.

In a fun moment, Ernie from Fox SATX made it to the ring to welcome every to the show and spell out the fact that Ring of Honor is owned by Sinclair Media, which also has a hand in his Fox station.  If you recall, Ernie was trying to interview ACH when Steve Corino called in and hijacked the segment.

Well, Ernie almost paid for showing up when Mark Briscoe came out for the save and attacked Corino.  The two went back and forth when Corino's mystery S.C.U.M. hand was revealed to be Jimmy Jacobs and Rhett Titus.

Impromptu match ended in DQ.

ATHENA vs. BARBI HAYDEN

This is as good as my photos got because I didn't want
ROH to take my camera

This was an outstanding match by the Texas indy women.  Both girls came out swinging, and the fans enjoyed it.  In the end, Athena hits the O-Face and puts Barbi away.

BOBBY FISH vs. RAY ROWE

Properly shaved New York douchebag Bobby Fish took on Texas indy standout, Ray Rowe.  As you might imagine, it was a physical match that found Rowe chopping Fish until he bled.  Rowe blasted Fish with his double knee flying attack and it was amazing.

But in the end, even after a good showing, Rowe lost to fish.

EDDIE EDWARDS vs. ROH TV CHAMP MATT TAVEN

This was a great and competitive match as well.  Edwards and Taven beat each other up before Edwards took the victory.  Taven had a long, hard look at the belt and considered his worth after the matchup.

ACH vs. JAY LETHAL

If this is match of the night, then it was match of the year.  ACH and Jay Lethal tore the house down in an amazing high flight and technical match.  ACH brought all he had, but it wasn't enough to take down Lethal, who got him.

But in the end, Lethal gave ACH his props and saluted him with pure honor.

And then, INTERMISSION

ADAM COLE vs. RODERICK STRONG

This match was alright.  The two put on a competitive match, with Strong taking the victory in the end.

But the real highlight was watching noted With Leather Blogger and Best and Worst of Raw mastermind Brandon Stroud just unload on Strong with a personal verbal vendetta against the noted wrestling stalwart.  Jesus Christ, he went off on Strong, saying he looked like a human leg, which was weird.  Called him the lamp from 'A Christmas Story'.  After he brought it up, I could see that, I guess.

And then, when the match ended, Strong confronted Stroud from the ring, calling him names and saying he doesn't score with chicks as Stroud sat by his immensely charming girlfriend, the lovely Miss Destiny.  Now I'm not going to draw any conclusions, but we're all adults here, Roderick Strong.  You're probably wrong on that assumption.  Try again.

TEXAS TORNADO TAG MATCH
S.C.U.M. reps JIMMY JACOBS AND RHETT TITUS
VS.
MIKE ELGIN AND BJ WHITMER

These dudes threw down all over the Shrine Auditorium, where Shriner's help raise money for children's hospitals and shit.  And it got crazy.

As it made its way back to the ring, Jimmy Jacobs suggested to Rhett Titus a way to murder BJ Whitmer by taking the mats off the Shrine floor and spike piledriving him to the pavement.  But luckily he was saved from that fate.

Balding mullet man seeking to commit murder 1 before the other dudes do

Truth is, Elgin promised he was going to send SCUM out in a body bag at the beginning of the night.  So, in a way, SCUM was just attempting to commit 1st degree murder first before Elgin made good on his promise.  Sound strategy when you think about it.

SCUM took the victory.

RING OF HONOR WORLD TITLE MATCH
JAY BRISCOE (C) vs. DAVEY RICHARDS

This was yet another great match and a great finish to the show, with both wrestlers giving their all to the crowd that stayed with them the whole night.

One of the highlights, though, was Texas Superfan Stephanie shouting Kings of the Underground at Jay Briscoe before the match started.  I had made my peace with them, but she certainly hadn't.  She was wearing her green KotU shirt, too.  It was pretty awesome.

At any rate, the two even battled it out in a test of strength multiple times to the delight of the fans.  Jay takes the win in a hard fought battle.

All I got to say is it was a tremendously fun night of action that I hope returns to our state again.  Perhaps a show in ATX and SATX on the same weekend?

Also, KotU vs. Briscoes.  Goddammit, make it happen!

Thanks Ring of Honor

FIGHTS: RCW SuperShow '13 teeters between fun and insanity

GENITAL MUTILATION, POORLY RUN CONCESSION STAND MAR WILD EVENT

by Bowie Ibarra

River City Wrestling has been a constant provider of pro-wrestling action for over ten years now.  As the Texas wrestling revival grows in strength, RCW has always been around, and is benefiting from the attention Texas wrestling is currently receiving.

On this night, it was the presence of TNA SuperStars at the event, joining with the already talented roster of the organization, that made the event wild and fun.  Here are some notes from another fun, yet out of control, event.

RETURN OF DINGO WALLABY

-- It was good to see Dingo Wallaby back from neck surgery.  We'll see soon if he chooses to compete again.  He did a good job announcing in spite of a poor sound system in the Aztec Soccer Arena.

LOW RIDER vs. STRAIGHT EDGE DUDE

--  Straight Edge Dude entered to a unique pick of a song:  Justin Beiber's 'Baby'.  Hmmmm....
--  Low Rider would power up in the ring by pantomiming taking a hit from a jay.  Now, wait a second.  This has become interesting, because 'straight edge' dudes are supposed to kick the asses of anyone doing drugs or drinking beer.
--  Straight Edge Dude wins, but then jumps the rail to get in the face of a fan.  It was a sign that things were going to get wild.

SIX MAN MATCH

--  A big six man match followed up the opening match, featuring the reunion of Dingo Wallaby with Honky Kong.

-- Ryan Oshun was a part of the team, too, and seemed to relish being with the good guys.

--  A third talent joined, too, who was said to be one of the students of the RCW school of wrestling.

-- The sleazy Joey Spector was a part of the heel faction, and man he looked like he put on some weight for the winter.  He was just as sleazy and gross as I remember him, and it was good to see him in action again.  He teamed with 'Twix' Rob Love and Jerimiah Jones.

ALISSA FLASH vs. KYRA MYA

--  Alissa Flash returned to RCW looking for answers as to why she was stripped of the RCW International Title.  Instead, she was greeted by the mammoth Kyra Mya and the Samoan Islander from Norman, Oklahoma, Michael Faith.  Its then that Sicodelico, Jr., joined Alissa at ringside.  The ringside partners were soon ejected, however, and things got out of hand.

--  Alissa took it to Kyra, who couldn't seem to get things going.  Alissa smashed Kyra with trash cans outside the ring, turning the match hardcore and taking out her aggression on being stripped of the International Title on the massive Mya.

-- Back in the ring, a masked 'large luchador' made it to the ring and trashed Alissa with a swirling slam, giving the win to Mya.  Thanks a lot, ref.

GRUDGE MATCH
'Ring King' Don Juan vs. Hernandez

--  Hernandez shows up jacked as usual in sweat pants and street shoes.  But he did paint his body blue with the superman logo emblazed across his chest.

-- Hernandez let a local fan dressed as Aquaman enter the fray and beat up on Juan.  Good old RCW-style fun.

--  After faking an injury, Don Juan jumped Hernandez and messed him up.  When he took the mike, he said how great he was.  That's when Rob Terry entered the ring to everyone's surprise and jacked up Don Juan with a power move.

Then Joey Ryan came in and joined in on the RCW wackiness.

That's when things got completely out of hand with the arrival of Aces and 8s.

Okay, three bad dudes on one bad guy.  People cheering.  TNAs in town.  I get it.  Get in some moves, lets have some fun.

Fans are overjoyed, now calling for the table.  Okay, well, still three bad guys.  Still just Don Juan, this is a little much, but okay.

Then the Aces and 8 hammer comes out, and now things are a little out of hand.  Are we really going to cheer for Aces and 8 to mutilate Don Juan's genitals with a hammer blow?  Is this Looney Tunes?  No, that's a real dude in there, and though this is still clearly theatre, the bloodlust that came over this crowd kind of chilled me.

Look, its one thing if a dude signs up for a hardcore match.  I get it.  Whatever happens to him he had coming.  You signed up to wrestle Masada, Onita, Cactus Jack, whatever.  You signed up for it, you deserve the brutality of whatever weapon gets used in there, and I'll watch it.

Don Juan might have deserved to get punked out by some of TNAs big stars, but he didn't sign up to have his eggs scrambled.

Time to go to the concession stand while these crazy bikers celebrate cracking a dudes nuts open in front of the now rabid RCW fans.

THE WAR OF ATTRITION AT THE CONCESSION STAND

This concession stand was the worst concession stand I have ever had a chance to wait in line for at an indy wrestling event.  Two people with their heads up their asses looking at the crowd like they never saw or expected this kind of crowd.  What is wrong with this place?  How do you not have people, at least four people, ready to go for the large crowd they had to have seen last month.

Then, one of the concession stand people bailed on the stand and left one poor high school sophomore with no gloves on to grab chips from the bag to put cold cheese on and put in a microwave(!!) because they were not ready with cheese in crock pot?

Boo this stand.  I'll just have a beer instead of a Frito-Pie.  20 minutes to get one beer.  Fix that, Aztec Soccer stadium.

RCW PHOENIX TITLE MATCH
"Most Interesting Wrestler in the World" Mitch Baxter vs. 'Centerfold' Matt Palmer

-- A great matchup.  It was cool to see Centerfold branch out in to other territories, and I think he did a great job against newbie Baxter.  The fans really liked him and I think were prompted by the section I was in.  Baxter takes the win with a cheating roll up.

--  I had fun telling Mitch Baxter's mom was a slut, because, well, she does bang out guys for money on film when she's not managing her son to wrestling victory.  Don't ask me how I know that, however.

RCW TITLE MATCH
'The Samoan Oklahoman' Michael Faith vs. Sicodelico, Jr.

--  Sicodelico, Jr., arrives at the ring in full Aztec Warrior themed regalia.

-- FAith arrived to the ring with Mya in tow for the match and put on mask to mock Sicodelico, who didn't take kindly to it.

--  The fight spills outside the ring and gets crazy!  Here are some snaps.

--- It was basically two on one in the match, and Sico lost to the Samoan Oklahoman.

All in all, I still had a good time.  RCW always delivers, and though I couldn't get behind the genital mutilation with the other fans, I still had fun.  That's why I pay my $10 to go to the shows.  RCW always delivers a good time.
