It was a long Sunday. Hell, a long weekend. Double Friday. Work Saturday morning. Book signing Saturday afternoon. Then a trip to Houston with my girlfriend, Anna, to pay homage to her deceased uncle. A great highlight of the trip was picking up a picture of the von Erich brothers before three out of four of them died.
But then it was back to San Antonio as ACdub brought their special brand of pro-wrestling anarchy to Hooligans. We missed several bouts featuring stars as KASH, Amanda Fox, Lillie Mae, Sky Rider and Jason Silver, Athena vs. LaMotta, Berry Breeze, Super Electro, The Takeover (BOO!) beat up Ref McLovin, who put up a fight, among others. Even "The Father of Pain" Darin Childs and 8-Bit Wrestler Skylar Skelly threw down in a friendly grudge match. My camera was in the car when I arrived, so I missedout on some pics. But I did catch these.
"Really. There's an invisible slide."
Shawn Vexx vs. The Son of Anarchy Matt Palmer (Champ)
These two threw down in what was a great match. Vexx brought it to Palmer. But the champ prevailed.
"The Mysterious Madwoman returns"
Joshi Title - Lillie Mae vs. Lady Poison (champ)
The match was originally slated to be south Texas stalwart Claudia del Solis' chance to walk in to ACW and grab the Joshi title. But she missed out on it for a reason never revealed. In fact, I was looking forward to this match up. Solis is an animal, and I thought her beast-like style would compliment and compete against the unorthodox cruelty of Lady Poison. But it wasn't to be.
Instead, Lillie Mae was thrust into Championship contention. She was very fearful of the Green Death, running in fear. Also, spent from her previous match that night.
"The Kiss of Death"
In the end, perhaps from fatigue from earlier, Lillie tried to finish the fight with a power bomb. Instead, Lady Poison reversed it with a kiss.
"Green Death"
Here's a shot of Lillie Mae choking on the Kiss. Evil.
"Champ"
"Wolves picking their prey"
Summers/Masada vs. Vega/Jay vs. Tozawa/ACH vs. Submission Squad
Then things got crazy. These six guys threw down in what was a big finish to the evening's festivities. I was just glad they entered to one theme. Especially Summers and Masada. Love watching Masada wrestle, but Jesus Christ. I will kill a cat, already, if he'll just stop playing that music.
"Cool ankle. I think I'll take it home with me."
"Elbows can be fun... and educational!"
Tozawa and Summers went at it with elbows. Man, it was ruthless. Tozawa came out on top after the exchange with a little science. Then Summers responded to me and the crowd by saying, "What do you expect? He's a ninja."
"Gary Jay. C'mon, now."
"One way ticket to O'Shitville, Texas"
Summers and Masada dominated, setting up a cruel finish for Vega, who was the last one left to finish. It was ugly, and Vega was yet again punished by Masada. The two had mixed it up months earlier in a deathmatch that made me sad for Vega. But that's what you gotta do to be a better wrestler. Take the loss and learn from it.
The Submission Squad took issue with Vega losing, and got in his face. But Summers and Masada came in for the save. As much as they made clear to Vega what happens in the ring is business, they respected him for his toughness.
The Submission Squad snatched Vega away. They are not going to part with Spitfire that easy.
It was a great night of wrestling. To all of the wrestlers I cheer and jeer, thank you.
