ZOMBIES: The 'Summer of Zombie' Blog Tour storms the ZombieBloodFights blog!

By Bowie Ibarra

It's a great honor for the ZombieBloodFights.com blog to welcome members of the 'Summer of Zombie Blog Tour'.  At the end of today's blog is a special offer from the madmen of the Zombie Blog Tour.

It's my pleasure to welcome Ian Woodhead and Mark Tufo, authors of 'The Unwashed Dead' and 'Zombie Fallout', respectively.

ZombieBloodFights.com - Hi all.  It’s great to have ya’ll here.

First off, let’s talk about that wild zombie/cannibal situation in Florida a few days back.  Naturally, as I imagine most of ya’ll did, I reserved judgement until all the facts were in.  But did you have a moment where you thought, “Holy crap.  It’s going down,” when you heard about it?

Mark Tufo: I'll probably end up being like most people and think, 'Naw that shit isn't happening!' For maybe the briefest of seconds I thought possibly, yet no matter how unrealistic I think a zombie apocalypse is going to happen, I'm still preparing. As long as I'm not the first zombie or victim I'll be happy!

Ian Woodhead: I saw all the posts on Facebook just hours after it had happened. Strange to think that of all the atrocities that our species do to each other on a daily basis, that was the one that went viral.

Did I think it was going down? To be honest? It didn’t cross my mind, I just felt for the poor bastard and his family who had to undergo such a traumatic experience. Yes, I did do an image search, looking for the guy’s mutilated face. For research purposes only, you understand. (Honest)

ZBF.com - Everybody’s got their favorite weapon for the zpoc.  Everybody’s going to have water and other supplies.  But let's talk about what many (including myself) would also like to include in their supplies:  BEER.  What would be your beer of choice for the zombie apocalypse?

MT: True beer aficionados would look at my list and turn their noses up at me. Right now my first choice would be Molson Canadian followed closely by Rolling Rock. Want to know what my REAL favorite is though? It's free beer followed even closer by cold.

IW: Beer? Oh yeah, I’d have beer. I’m currently enjoying a brands. McEwen’s Champion, a dark ale of 7.3% and a double strength IPA of 9.6%

ZBF.com - Let’s jump to the big six questions:

In your opinion, what are some key elements that make up a good zombie horror story?

MT: Suspense, I love that good hanging on the edge of your seat, have no idea what is going to happen next feeling, whether from a book or a movie. Also I know you have to suspend some believability when dealing with this subject but I don't like stories where out of the blue the fantastical happens. 'Tom and his gang were surrounded by zombies, the end was in sight, but oh no what is that in the sky? It is a meteor that has wiped out all of our enemies! How fortuitous! That kind of things shows laziness on the part of the storyteller.

IW: So the dead have risen and are eating the survivors. Yeah, we get that. The survivors won’t stand for this, they all tool up and get ready to kick some serious zombie arse!

Bollocks.

I focus on how the normal bloke in the street would react if the zpoc ever happened. Granted, writing about video game characters have an endless supply of shotgun shells who are also kung fu experts who ALSO save the day AND get the girl are a lot of fun but not very realistic.

So, a good supply of ordinary characters, throw in an exciting plot with plenty of twists, create plenty of tension between the characters and kill a few of them off. Add some gory deaths and there you go. Probably.

ZBF.com - What and/or who were some of your artistic influences?

MT: I've got to bow to the great one, Stephen King. I have been consistently reading his books since I was probably ten years old. There are dozens of others, but he would stand above them all.

IW: You can’t beat a constant supply of metal blaring through those speakers when writing. Be it Power, death, doom and black. Spliced with Beethoven, Mozart and Strauss, you have a winning formula.

ZBF.com - If you could add elements to a zombie movie that you feel could have been better, which movie would it be and what would you add (or delete)?

MT: I've mostly enjoyed every zombie film I've watched, obviously some more than others. There have been some with an operating budget of maybe 24 dollars that maybe shouldn't have been made but that's not my call. The only thing that is kind of getting my goat at the moment is in The Walking Dead, I wish Rick would tell his wife and his bratty kid to take a hike. But that's just me!

IW: I think it would be interesting to see the original Dawn of the Dead remade, keeping the essential plot and characters but placed in a modern setting. Keeping our dead antagonists SLOW!

ZBF.com - What’s your pick?  Zombies, Fights, or Blood?

MT: I like bloody fights with zombies!

IW: Fighting zombies and plenty of blood!

ZBF.com - Where can readers find out more about you and your works?

Mark Tufo

Ian Woodhead

FIGHTS: via James Roy Daley and BOOKS of the DEAD PRESS blog: The Giangregorio Saga

I just thought I'd reblog this story from a colleague of mine named James Roy Daley.

Considering it is a kind of FIGHT from a girl trying to get her foot in the door and getting hosed, I thought it would be right to help spread the word on her (and others) behalf.

This story makes me feel very fortunate that I found people like Travis Adkins, Jacob and the boys and girls at Permuted Press, and Dr. Pus of Twisted Library Press.  I speak only for myself in that they have been fair and square with me, provided me a professional opportunity, and are all people I can trust.

With the new publishing technology, its sad to see that this Giangregorio guy is taking advantage of people just like me who are just trying to share the stories in their head with anyone who would give them a chance.  We're just trying to put our best foot forward for the opportunity, and I'm sad that people take advantage of other people's art.

Please read and share the blog below from James Roy Daley's 'Books of the Dead Press' blog.

FIGHTS: PCW returns in south Texas

by Bowie Ibarra

Wrestling fans who have been keeping up with the Texas indy scene over the years, some might remember Professional Championship Wrestling that ran out of Dallas, Texas.  They had a run for several years.

Apparently, they went away for a while but resurfaced this weekend in Fischer, Texas, where they put on an event at the Cowboys For Jesus arena.  I happened to be driving near the area and thought I'd give it a visit.  Here's some notes on what went down.

One of the people helping to get PCW off the ground was one of its featured stars, Jeromy Sage.  Sage put together a card to see who would be the best wrestlers to vie for the vacant PCW title.

-- 'The Party' took on a dude from Iowa.  It was speed vs. power, with the speedy 'Party' taking the victory.

--- LANCE HOYT was one of the headliners for the event.  Here he is before is opening round match against  'The Lumberjack' BOBBY LAMBERT.

But before the match could get off the ground, a contingent of Branded Outlaw Wrestling competitors showed up.  The infamous Ray the Voice led JAYKUS PLYSKIN, ANDY DALTON, and JAX DANE into the arena.  They called Fischer, Texas part of their territory, and demanded PCW show respect to the fledgling promotion.

That's when the gloryhound 'One Man' Mike Dell came to the ring to take the side of PCW.  With Dell and Dalton in their gear, Sage sanctioned an impromptu match between the two.

Dell put Dalton to the test.  In his signature fashion, Dalton got under the skin of not only Dell, but the crowd as well.

Though Dell dazzled Dalton with a high-impact attack, Dalton won via holding the ropes for leverage.

ACW star Matt Palmer showed up taking on D3.  The experienced Palmer put D3 to the test.

Palmer slaps on a Camel Clutch on D3.

Palmer slams D3.

In the end, the sneaky D3 pulled off the victory.

A ladies match was also on the card, pitting ANGEL BLUE versus the Kentucky menace MISS MAULIE. Blue has never endeared herself to the crowd, and the always stunning Maulie garnered the support of the crowd.

The girls worked science early and often, including groundwork that focused on attacking the ankles and knees.  In the end, Angel took the victory.

The impromptu main event rolled around after the BOW wrestlers bargained with Sage to mention the upcoming BOW show in SA in exchange to have Hoyt and Lambert face Dane and Plyskin.  It was a simple choice and the two tag teams threw down.

Dalton was still at ringside, and he took every opportunity to cheap shot the PCW duo.

Plyskin snapmares Lambert out of the corner.

It's been a while since I've seen Dane, and it seems like he's gotten even bigger since the last time I saw him. He's a beast.

Hoyt hits a clothesline on Plyskin.

Things quickly got out of hand and the BOW guys too advantage of Hoyt and Lambert.  But Mike Dell returned to the ring to even the odds, smashing Dalton with a solid spear tackle.

With the other two BOW members out of the ring, Lambert hit is 'Timber' Delayed Suplex for the victory.

And in the end it was all smiles for PCW, having defended the land they claimed from BOW's alleged territory.

But I imagine the BOW crew will be back to lay siege to PCW in the future to reclaim the land they believe was taken from them.  And considering Plyskin had to be assisted out of the ring, they might be back sooner than later.  Word comes it was a stinger.  You hate to see that happen.  But fact is Plyskin picked the fight, and sometimes injuries are the price of admission.

Here's hoping he gets well soon, because I'm ready to pay another 10-15 bucks to watch someone else beat him up again soon.

All in all it was a fun event.  The new wrestling crowd needed to get warmed up at first.  But with great wrestling talent and antagonists like Dalton and Angel Blue, it didn't take too long for everyone to have a good time.

Here's to continued success with PCW and whatever direction they choose to take the company in the future.

FIGHTS: Lucha Libre USA rolls through San Antonio

by Bowie Ibarra

Lucha Libre USA took its wild show on the road and made its way to San Antonio, Texas.  I was looking forward to this for weeks now ever since River City Wrestling mentioned the show and stated that it would be collaborating with the promotion.  I walked up to the legendary boondoggle we call The Alamodome and was ready for some fun lucha action.

Here's some notes and pics from the event.  And this blog is dedicated to REBY SKY, who Tweeted me and other fans for pics and viddys for the event.  Well, Reby, thanks for the Tweets (heart attack, heart attack once I discovered who she was and her role at the event).

Here it was.  Ground Zero for Lucha USA action.  It took place in the 'Alamodome Illusion Theatre', which was a draped off portion of the actual mammoth dome.  I think it was put together okay.  I sat in the sixth row with some other rowdies and we had a good time.  However, I think they could have scooted everyone much closer.  But I imagine with all the high flying that goes on, they wanted to leave room for the wrestlers without injuring fans.

They have clearly never gone to an Anarchy Championship Wrestling show, where the action pretty much spills into the crowd every time.

Many, many people in the crowd were masked.  I saw a lot of Rey Mysterios, Dr. Wagner, Jrs., and other stars as well, including Pierroth.  A very hot Pierroth, who was not the fat Puerto Rican I remember one of the Pierroths used to be, was in attendance.  Or was it Dominican?  Whatever.

She was in attendance with 'Rey Mysterio, Jr' and 'Psicosis'.  Rey's let himself go during this whole 'health and wellness' policy violation.

Being so far from the ring, I couldn't capture some good snaps.  But here's those general notes I mentioned.

-- The pre-show sucked.  At first, that is.  The guy that was an announcer got an earful from me every time he came out.  Fortunately, he was able to keep some fan cred by having REBY SKY (who was named 'Reyes) at his side as well.  Reby was challenged to a fan dance-off against another team leader who was none other than ROCKY ROMERO.  Wrestling fans might know that Romero was part of the grand Japanese tradition of 'Black Tigers', specifically 'Black Tiger IV'.  When I shouted to confirm that fact at Romero, who was walking through the audience to pick team members, he pointed back at me and said "Yes.  And you're a bad ass for knowing that."  Talk about making this wrestling fan proud!

-- RCW stars Bigg Dogg, Joey Spector, Honkey Kong, RCW Champ AJ Summers, and Galvan participated in the opening Royal Rumble Match.  And RCW refs 'Weird Guy' and Howie were officials for the night.  The winner was LLUSA's 'The Firewall', who took out AJ Summers as the last competitor.

-- There was 'Minis' action, featuring Mini Octagon, Mini Park, and Mini Halloween.

-- LIZMARK, JR., was in action, and the announcers did a good job getting us to tell him 'You Shut Up'.  Though I feel we would have said it anyway without prompting.  Sometimes people aren't used to live shows like I am.

--  There was a father 'shushing' his kid when he was getting loud.  I thought it was cute, because the kid ended up getting louder and louder as the event went on and the shushes become less and less.  We're not watching Tennessee Williams at the Majestic here.  This is a participatory experience!

--  Ambulance chaser Wayne Wright and Associates helped sponsor the lucha action, and for that I'm thankful.  We were treated to commercials featuring 'Nelda' and 'Jose' and how they won their injury case because of Wayne Wright's legal magic.  Lucha needs to get the respect it deserves, and we demand it.  Thanks for bringing LLUSA to SATX, Mr. Wright.

-- I, personally, would have liked to see LLUSA book a match between Wright and 'The Texas Hammer' Jim Adler.

--  Chavo Guerrero, Jr. was on the card as well.

--  I'm pretty sure MAGNO was also on the card as well.  Wrestling fans might remember Magno as being one of Hunico's friends when Hunico was Incognito.  He wrestled a guy that might as well have been 'Dr. Pepper Man'.  His name was 'EL NUEVO MACHO', and he was a corporate shill for PepsiCo and part of the 1%.  So I boo'd him.

But yet Dr. Pepper is a Texas-born beverage, so maybe I should cheer him.  He also got his powers by drinking a Dr. Pepper 10, the discriminatory beverage that only men can drink, apparently.  It was a fun match, and I cheered for him in the end.  I'm a sellout, but he did a good job.

-- RJ BREWER was in the main event with BLUE DEMON, JR.  RJ Brewer made videos featuring 'luchadores' crossing the border illegally.  He claimed was doing his best in and out of the ring to protect the US and send who he considered wetback luchadores back to Mexico.

He was accompanied to the ring by 'The Firewall'.

And here is a pic of me touching the hand of the son of a man who fought Dracula, the Wolfman, Dr. Frankenstein, and zombies/Las Momias de Guanajuato with El Santo and Mil Mascaras.  Your arguments are invalid.

And I don't know about you, but even though RJ Brewer hates Blue Demon and lucha libre, you know he's putting this rivalry down on his resume.

Blue Demon, Jr. vs. RJ Brewer.

Though the fans were encouraged to chant 'Mexico, Mexico', I thought chanting 'Texas, Texas' might have been just as appropriate.  Brewer was representing Arizona after all.  And we all know Texas is better than Arizona!  ;)

In the end, Brewer lost the wager (Career vs. Having to wear a mask like a luchador), and Blue Demon, Jr. made him put on a lucha mask to humiliate him.  On all the video promos, Brewer talked about his mother raising him right, but never mentioned his father.  I took note of that, and so did Blue Demon, who had some choice words for Brewer after the match.  You can see the video for the end of the match here.

In the end, it was a good time.  I think the politics injected into the event was curious, and would love to see it play out in places north of Texas.  Hell, in places IN north Texas.  But it was a lot of fun and worth the ticket.

If you have a chance to go see Lucha Libre USA, do it.  It was a lot of fun.

FIGHTS: ACW Peace, Love, and balcony throws with Anarchy, 2012

by Bowie Ibarra

What a day to have a birthday.  It's the monthly Anarchy Championship Wrestling event, and it was a blast as usual.  Here are some pics from the event.

I make it to the arena in time for MOJO BRAVADO (JoJo Bravo/Jordan Jenson) vs. PIERRE ABERNATHY and DAVEY VEGA.  I know the above picture looks like JoJo and Vega were auditioning for 'Human Centipede 3", but it was Vega keeping JoJo out of the ring for the Abernathy submission on Jensen.

Pierre-Mania was running wild.  Or should I say 'Ierre-Mania'?

Yeah.  I guess it's 'Ierre-Mania'.

JC BRAVO and CHINGO took on each other in a serious grudge match.

ChrisTrew.tumblr.us.biz returned just in time to tear the 'Chris Trew sucks' sign of DESTINY, the girlfriend of noted internet wrestling pundit BRANDON STROUD, as Stroud looks on, having had a vegan pizza delivered courtesy of Hoboken Pizza.

ACW SuperFan Shannel had a question for Chris Trew.

King of the Underground Scot "Best in Texas" Summers was on hand to team with Darin Childs and the 'Springwood Slasher' Christopher Wolfenstein.  The last time Chris Trew was at ACW, Scot Summers destroyed the pro-wrestling manager with a spear when Trew tried to force an acquisition to his stable on Summers.

As you might imagine, Summers was the first to give Trew a hard time, assaulting the hobo manager and smashing his glasses.

But Killah Ka$h had something for Summers.  And that 'something' was a steel spike that you can see in his right hand.

After Kash took Summer's eye, he then called Trew to the ring.

Money changed hands, and it was clear Trew put out a bounty on Summers.

Just like Sean Payton, New Orleans seems to bread some dirty players in the game.

At least now he can't read signs.  Not that he could read before that anyway.  And it's a good thing, too.

Blind mother f**ker.

With Summers out, Jerry Lynn was on hand to take his place for his team against Ka$h and SILVER/DeLaCRIMOSA.

Jerry Lynn took a moment and respectfully called out ACW standout, Davey Vega back to the ring for a match.

Vega answered the call.  And it was a great scientific matchup...

... even SuperFan Shannel was torn...

... as the two locked up.  It was a great match until...

... until Vega's Submission Squad friends came out and forced the Vega victory by interfering in the match.

There's GELISTICO with a taunt of support.

RACHEL SUMMERLYNN took on MATTHEW PALMER in a Hardocre Title Match that got absolutely wild.  Here's Palmer giving Summerlynn a Figure Four in the ropes.

The madness eventually made its way to Mohawk's new balcony, which they both took advantage and initiated.  First with Palmer...

Then a duet...

Here's a video, courtesy Brandon Stroud of Best and Worst of Raw.

LADY POISON took on Illinois competitor SERENITY in a rough matchup.

After Poison took the win, Summerlynn showed up and challenged Poison.

MACHIKO tried to help to no avail.

ANGEL BLUE, clad in a Ric Flair-style robe, made her way to the ring to defend her Joshi Title against BARBIE HAYDEN.

After taking the victory, Blue talked trash on the mic.

She said there was no competition until the Canadian Mexican, Portia Perez, answered the challenge.

Blue then ate a Perez SuperKick.  It's Game on!

JAYKUS PLYSKIN upped his douchebag level a few notches this weekend by giving ACW Champ ACH a hard time all night, even before their match that also featured GARY JAY and SHAWN VEXXXX.

I want the idiot ref to notice that there are also weapons on Plyskin's shorts.  Those studs are not legal and I'm going to let the Texas State Athletic Commission know.

Vexx Flies!

So does ACH.

Then after the match, there was another standoff.

Plyskin even called ACH the 'n' word.  I don't think I've ever heard that word used in a pro-wrestling show in a long time, and it lit a fire under ACH and the fans.

Then, he called him an "RCW Reject".  What?

As a blogger, I've tried to stay out of this shit.  But since this keeps coming up over and over with this douchebag, let's talk about it.

So, again, out of nowhere, Plyskin randomly continued his bizzare rant against San Antonio promotion, River City Wrestling.  I don't know what beef he has with them, and I don't care.  I know other wrestlers have beef as well, but don't bring it up at shows every chance they get.  As a fan, I just show up for great pro-wrestling and a good time, wherever I can find it.  As much as I'm familiar with some of the politics in the organizations around here and the chisme about the wrestlers, I don't claim to be an expert about the gossip.  I'm not out to be the Texas indy TMZ.  I'm certainly not going to blog about the wild rumors.

All I know is RCW puts on shows I enjoy and have fun at.  ACW puts on shows I enjoy and have fun at.  Plyskin gives RCW free press every time he brings them up, and I don't know why he needed to call ACH an 'RCW reject'.  I imagine no one else in the arena knew why, either.  So why bring it up?

Whatever that sewing circle gossip Plyskin is talking about and whether it's true or not, other facts remain for all to see.  Absolute Intense Wrestling thought ACH was alright.  Beyond Wrestling thought ACH was pretty good, advancing to the finals of the "Tournament for Tomorrow".  Combat Zone Wrestling thought ACH was good enough to compete in the Best of the Best 2012 as well.  And ACH is STILL the ACW champ.  ACH is a fantastic representative for the glory and good of this Texas Wrestling renaissance that seems to be occurring right now.  I never thought a tough guy like Plyskin was the jealous type.

And Plyskin acts like he's never worked at RCW before.  Truth is, he accepted RCW money to wrestle there years ago and I have the match on DVD (RCW Texas Explosion: Texas vs. Japan) in which he competed.  So I don't know what his problem is.  As a fan, Plyskin better concentrate on ACH on his ACW home turf, because that guy is one of the best in the sport right now.  And ACH will beat him up if he's not on his best game and preoccupied with dumb shit.

You know what?  Since he keeps bringing it up, if Plyskin has that big of a problem with RCW, then Hernandez has been talking this same kind of weird trash as well.  I have not wanted to address it here because this kind of politicking upsets me as a fan, even when Hernandez seems to take potshots at one of ACW's own and one of my favorites.  Maybe Plyskin and Hernendez need to stop talking their shit at shows and on videos representing their promotion and lock it up in the ring.  As a fan, I'd pay to see that.  Hell, I already pay good money at least once a month to watch ANYONE kick Plyskin and The Takeover's asses!

At any rate, ACH then punked out Plyskin by pointing out the facts.  One of those being that he IS stupid for talking trash about RCW because a majority of the ACW fans don't attend RCW shows and don't care about his issues with them.  The ACW faithful of Austin love their ACW, as I do as well.  And ACH also got in Plyskin's face for being the giant douchebag that he is.

That's about the time that Vexxx decided he needed to assault ACH as well.  Why Vexxxx is doing the heavy lifting for Plyskin is beyond me.  But this rivalry between these three athletes is turning into a blood feud quick.  I think I speak for a lot of the ACW fans when I say I look forward to watching this feud play out.

Again, another great ACW show, and another great time with the ACW fans, friends, and wrestlers.  Thanks again!  I look forward to next month!
